Webmail allows you to access your SMU email account from any computer equipped with an Internet connection and web browser software. Access is either via the web at http://webmail.smu.edu or by using Outlook Express.

Logging Onto Webmail

  1. Use your web browser to access the page at webmail.smu.edu. (Webmail is optimized for Internet Explorer, so other web browsers may not offer full Webmail functionality.)
  2. Click the Login to Webmail button.
  3. You may receive a dialog box informing you that you are logging on to a secure connection, if so, click OK.
  4. In the logon box, type:
    • your SMU ID number (i.e. 00002222) in the space provided for User Name
    • your password in the space provided for Password
      (Note: This logon request is for your NT ID and password.)
  5. Press Enter.
  6. After a successful login, Webmail will display the Inbox, which is the default window in Webmail.
  7. If the password is typed incorrectly three times, your account will be locked. To unlock your account, go to http://smu.edu/password and click “Reset your Password” and “Unlock account,” or please contact one of the law school technology staff or contact the SMU ITS Help Desk at 214-768-4357.

Logging Off Webmail

Important: Always log off when you are finished using Webmail. By logging off, you close the session between the client and the server.
  1. Click the Log Off button.
  2. Exit the browser.
